Allens Lollies has discontinued various Lollies due to poor sales

But what does this mean for kids' birthday cakes?!

Will someone think of the children!?

In news that’s leaving a sour-taste in mouths across the nation, Allen’s Lollies have announced that they will be discontinuing production of some their famous lollies.

Not all lollies will be discontinued – thank goodness – but we’ll no longer be seeing some old, childhood favourites on the supermarket shelves.

An Allen’s Lollies spokeswoman, Margaret Stuart told Fairfax Media that the company stopped production of certain ranges late last year, “They just stopped selling. People stopped buying them,” she explained.

So, what lollies are we talking about?

Spearmint leaves — discontinued

Kool chocs — discontinued

Green frogs — discontinued

Pollywaffle — discontinued

Killer Python — down-sized

Chicos — removed gelatine to make them vegetarian

Snakes — swapping out artificial colours means blue is now purple

Race cars — blue gone, purple added

But before you think it’s not all that bad, can someone please think of the children?!

Because spearmint leaves have been discontinued and they are a key decorating ingredient for lots of memorable children’s birthday cakes, including this beautiful, green Tinkerbell cake.

Will Tinkerbell go undressed to her next soiree with no spearmint leaves to dress her?

Thankfully, Allen’s Marella Jubes are still available and the green jubes can easily be substitued for spearmint leaves. Although, with jubes being sold in multi-flavoured packets you will have to buy a lot of jubes to have enough green ones to decorate Tink’s dress.

We feel a “Bring back the Spearmint Leaves” social media movement coming on. In fact, it’s probably already started.
